E-brake and brake light...

Just out of curiosity, is the brake light supposed to come on when the e-brake is pulled on 2nd gens?

Yes, there is a light that comes on when the parking brake is engaged.

Suck...now the fact that it doesn't come on when my parking brake is engaged makes me wonder why and how to fix it. Any ideas of where to start looking?

It could be as simple as the dash light behind is burned out. I think there must be some sort of switch that is triggered when the e-brake is engaged that sends the signal for the dash light to come on. Someone with more electrical knowledge/experience will post I'm sure.

Thanks for your replies.

I see the

(!)
Brake

light appear on the dash for a few seconds when the ignition is on (it stays on if the truck is not started), so I don't think that it's a bulb problem. I'll look around under the dash for any type of switch etc.

Ya, that would be my next best guess. Try having someone else release and engage the brake while you look underneath to see what is there. Good luck-
