Unhappy dying transmission=no fun

well for those of you that read my post yesterday about my runner jumping rpms and acceleration hesitation...its my transmission. its shifting into 2nd to quickly or something. well my friend(mechanic) says that all i can do is either drive it out till it dies or rebuild the trans, but from what i gather its about 2500k to do..and the car is only worth about 5k. the engine itself is in excellent condition, but i guess the transmission is going bad..so anyways, are there any suggestions. either to drive it out until she runs no more, or try to sell it while it still runs? and anything else i should maybe consider? thank you. and to me, 130k and the transmission going bad, seems awful early. but maybe not, thanks again.

Sincerely, Sad in Oklahoma
