DVD player & LCD in the headrest?

Having a kid and going on long trips are a bad combo. I am finally breaking down and looking at getting a DVD player for the truck. I have done some research but thought I would ask a few questions from those who have put something in a 4Runner.

1. Can you buy the headrest with the LCD screen or do you have to mount it yourself?

1a. if you have to mount it your self how hard is it to do?

2. Are there any brands to buy or not buy? I don't want cheap crap, but don't want to pay top dollar for some brand name.

Ideally I am looking for a new head unit that will play DVDs and MP3s but have a video out to go to the headrest.

I installed a stereo system in my old truck so I think I could probably do it myself if I have instructions.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

thanks

I bought the audiovox portable system. You can find them all over the place. Its nice because I can move it between vehicles, and take it in hotels/inlaws with me since they don't have a dvd player. The player can also be seperated from the screen and used as dvd for normal t.v. The screen comes with a pouch to mount it on the headrest so its perfect for in vehicle too.

performance products has a kit that includes headrest w/ screen, dvd player and everything else you would need to install, but they want 1800 bucks for it.

EDIT: Here's one from Autobarn for 1400:

If you want some cheaper options go to www.partsexpress.com and look at 'mobile AV'

they also make brackets that slip over the headrest and the monitor attaches to them, and pushes up against the headrest. Easy to install (5 sec) and it doesn't require cutting up the headrest. Available on Ebay for like $15

They don't have the headrests, but they sell the raw monitors you can install...it's MUCH cheaper. I have a set of Leather Oak Factory Headrest for sale if anyone wants them. I got them thinking I was going to go the DVD route and wanted a set of each.

Thanks for all the input thus far. I found a site that tells you how to install them in the headrest. It doesn't look too bad. However, I think I might want to pick up an extra headrest just in case if I got that route

I saw a Pioneer model that has a base that attaches to the headrest posts. That might be a good alternative as you could remove the screen when not using it. I'll lose 'bling' points for not having the custom install, but that's not what this is about.

I think the PP & AutoBarn options are a little steep. For that price I could probably have it custom installed.

The search continues...
