Dropping my tire size

I bought my 97 4 Runner used last year. It came with 285's and front Old Man Emu 881 coils with Old Man Emu N91S shocks and rear Old Man Emu 891 coils with Old Man Emu N86 shocks. I feel like this thing is a pig on the highway and am not really sure if I want to spend $1100 to regear it. My question is, if I dropped to 265/75/16's would it look funny (ie. too small)? I use the 4Runner as more of an exploration vehicle and starting next year it will spend most of it's time in the desert on the west coast.

Thoughts?

I have the same suspension on my 2001, with 265/75R16s, it doesn't look too bad.

If you get rims with a wider offset it would look even better. I had the same setup for nearly a year and actually preferred it compared to the 285s.
