Question Driveshaft question.please help!!!

2000 prerunner standard cab 2wd 2.7

i have a severe vibration/wobble at 25mph and up. I checked the rear today and the driveshaft wobbles a little when running in drive. I checked u joint for play and it feels fine. The shaft is one piece because it's standard cab 2wd. The driveshaft part after the flange connection looks like it is a seperate piece from the rest of the shaft and it fits into the rest of the driveshaft to the tranny. There is up and down movement between the two pieces. Does that mean it is bad? I thought one piece means one solid part. I think this is two parts. If it is bad, will a regular cab 2wd driveshaft work on a 2wd reg cab prerunner? What about 4wd reg cab on 2wd? Thank you for any help.

You are describing the slip splines. Your shaft is a one piece as it should be.

Have you checked tire balance, it is common to lose weights?

Tires were balanced a couple months ago. Weights are good. Do slip splines go bad? Would that cause a vibraton? If it's bad can it be replaced?

You are describing the symptoms that I had 2 weeks ago....vibration at 25 and up.....with 185k miles on my rear driveline, both the rubber support bearing and the CV (double cardan) needed replacing which is expected for the hi-mileage. Testing the CV joint is not always as easy as I had thought. PITA to rebuild the CV but if you can then you are the man. The rear portion of the DS with the CV on it can be found in junkyards for about $100. http://car-parts.com

Regarding the movement of your rubber support bearing......Even a genuine Toyota one will have up/down movement but my worn out one with 185,000 on it had really excessive movement. Hard to put a number on it but if yours has high miles on it then get a new one.
The aftermarket ones are much cheaper but they are reported to be cheezy and have more slop than the owners thought a new one should have. The OEM factory one is more money but worth it. Ebay is your friend. Retail is like about 218 before taxes and I don't know if they are the exact same part number in the case of the Runners...

Question

Thanks for the info. I think I will just swap out for a used shaft. I found one for $50 from a 2000 2wd reg cab 2.4 5 speed. I have a prerunner reg cab 2.7 automatic. I need to figure out if it will work.Any help is appreciated.Thanks.

Everyone always thinks it is a bad drive shaft support bearing when 99% of the time it isnt. There is always going to be play in the center support! Most of the time it is a bad u joint or bad old worn trand or engine mounts that are at fault. Bit people always getnunder their truck and start pushing and pulling at stuff and assume its the center support. Only to find out that replacing it does nothing. It always has that soft rubber bishing play in it. Your vehicle could prob run with out it there ... Jk but pretty much
