This is for a 2002 Sport Edition 4runner.

The driver's side lower AC vent and ducts have been condensing and dropping cold drops of water to form a visible puddle on the floor mats. I'm wondering if this is normal, or if it's something I should check further in to.

The past few days have been hot and humid as hell, and I've had the AC running pretty much constantly. The settings have been AC as cold as it will go through the upper and lower vents, with the AC and Recirculation buttons both on. With as humid as the past few days have been, I'm thinking that has more to do with it than anything else, but of course, I don't know anything about this vehicle's AC system.

This is the first time I've ever seen anything like it in a vehicle, so if it's to be expected in high-humidity areas, I won't worry. If it's not normal, any advice on where to start diagnosing any problems would be greatly appreciated.

There is a drain pipe that is connected to the lowest portion of the black box above the passenger footwell. Locate the hose that is connected to it in the engine bay right next to the exhaust manifold.There should be a short aluminium elbow right at the firewall. Either blow or suction that hose and it should free whatever is blocking the drain. Here in Houston I've been distilling about 5 gallons a day. Gonna be a long hot summer!

 

Yeah the evaporator tube is most likely clogged up. Better either use a long skinny screw driver and CAREFULLY unclog the tube and do it ASAP before it begins to stagnate and mold which will really stink and can cause health problems.

 

After removing the elbow, and checking the hose for clogs, there was something inside that felt very spongy feeling. Almost like the same material that surrounds that hose/pipe inside the passenger compartment.

This would mean it is inside that black box (which would be called ______?) Does the box need to be opened up for further inspection, or would pushing that material out of the way of the drain be sufficient?

If the box needs to be opened up, are there any writeups on the steps involved in removing it from under the dash?

This is a crazy coincidence, I just signed on tonight with all intentions of posting the SAME thread. I noticed the dripping on my legs on the 4th while driving to the beach to BBQ. Can't wait to see whats clogging her up tomorrow.

 

It's probably just condensation. They can drip some just from moisture condensing on the outside of the cooler box. Sometimes, I even have water dripping from the ducting under the drivers side.

If you drain was clogged, your passenger side carpet would be soaked.

 

Subscribed....just as crboca said, I was just about to start this thread as well. My 2000 has been dripping every once in awhile from both the driver and passenger sides.
