It may just be my dealer but...

what i have noticed most about the extended warranty is that the dealership is in constant battle with what is covered and not covered, especially if the warranty is from an aftermarket provider and not Toyota

i purchased one for 1250.00 and then talked to the dealer, they said i would have to pay out of pocket for any repairs and then collect myself from the warranty company since half the time all repair work wasn't covered, labor is only covered for book time and at a certain amount per hour.

I cancelled the policy and recieved a full refund because it was under 15 days from purchase, I now have 55K on my 2000, it is one year old to me and haven't yet needed a repair.

Long story short (or not so short)
Bag the extended warranty, buy some SAW's and a TJM

you know what. I have a truck that is a little more then a year and half old. I have modified almost everything on the truck in one form or another. The second they see that, my warranty goes out the window, even though I only have about 30K miles on it. Even today I took it in b/c some of the dash lights were on. I was told that I would have to pay a $98 diagnostic fee, and then they would determine if it was under warranty or not. This is before they even looked at the truck.

Now I know I have rights on this, but you know what its such a pain in the ass to deal with these people, that I just end up walking away furious and coming here for help, and every time so far I have found it.

So here is my advice, find a good private mechanic if you plan on modding your truck, and skip the warranty. If on the other hand your going to stay stock then go ahead and get the extended warranty.

 

First make sure that it is an actual toyota warrenty and if you really want it, talk them down on the price.

 

I think the 2200 is a bit high. Another thing to consider, is if they give you a warranty choice, instead of a bumper to bumper warranty, what about just engine and transmission? also, do some research and see what problems people usually encounter in the upcoming miles on your 4runner and that might help you decide. its a piece of mind to have the warranty, i just dont know if you'll get your moneys worth out of it.
