Do i need to change my diff oil?

So the other day i went to lake with my jet ski and i just shore launched, i had to back relatively far in to get the ski in the water. The water level was at about the top lug nut and slashing around quite a bit, it was really choppy. I want to say it was in there for 2 min max. I checked the level of the oil today and it was normal and there was not extra in there that could have been water. I would normally just change it but its royal purpler 75w-90 with less then 5k on it. Its $30 i dont really have to spend. what would you do? Oh and i extended the breather today so thats now taken care of, should of done it before i drove in the lake haha

I'm in that same dilema, lol. Except it was the front diff.

Honeslty, pend the extra money, lesson learned, extend the breathers.

I'd say $30 is worth piece of mind. I'd do it.

its possible some got in there but if nothing has changed then you're probably fine. However it is a good idea to change out the oil anyway. Just use some regular store brand gear oil until you have the $30 for the royal purple

There's no sense replacing perfectly good gear oil (unless you were due to change it anyways, which you're not). Just let the truck sit for an hour or so to let the water (if any) and oil fully separate, then open your drain plug (just slightly) to let a small amount of fluid come out, then tighten the plug back up. If there's water in there, it will be at the bottom of the diff. If all that comes out is gear oil, then you're good to go. If you see any water, then change it out.

well now that i think about. At the end of may im going to be going home for summer break and i plan to redo my entire brake system: tundra caliper, rotors, brake shoes, axles seals. and to do the axles seals i gotta drain the diff anyway so ill just get the cheap stuff now and refill with RP then.

While you're doing all that work make sure and extend your breather, then you won't need to worry about it next time.
