distrubutor square and round plugs

swapping a different 22r in to an 84 over the weekend I had it about buttoned up and came accross a problem.

the distributor in the origional engine had a round plug for the pickup coil harness, the new engine has a square plug. The wires are the same color, can I just make a jumper wire to see if the engine runs? I hate to have to swap and goto even more work for a engine in unknown condition. Would like to be able to leave the timing where it is and see if it fires first.

???
