With all the problems that the 3rd gen 4runner seems to have with balancing our stock wheels. Since they are lug centric and most other rims a hub centric. From what I have read the 4runner is the only truck that is lug centric from the factory and is the only truck with this problem. So would switching to a Tundra or Tacoma rim help this problem? Or is the only choice aftermarket rims?

ive had ZERO problems balancing on my stock wheels... so thats why i have nothing to say.

Many who have the 5 spoke alloys don't seem to have any balancing issues. I have the 3 spoke alloys and they were a problem to balance, the shop had to do it twice and that was a dealership using a Hunter machine. I originally had the steel rims and they were never a problem to balance, so it mostly seems to be the 3 spoke alloys. Therefore I would say if you get any OEM alloy other than the 3 spoke it should not be a big problem. On a side note when I replaced my tires recently Sears had no problems balancing the 3 spoke rims the first time, so maybe it's just the dealers who suck.

 

It won't matter if you switch rims no matter what manufacturer they are.
It is the design of the truck to be lug-centric so you will not be escaping the issue by changing.
Have you had problems with different sets of tires?
Are you sure it is a tire balance problem?
