differences between stock 2wd and 4wd front struts?
First off, been lurking for years (this is a most excellent forum!). I usually find my answers pretty quickly here with a search, but I am getting conflicting info.
I have a 1996 4runner sr5 2wd auto v6 all stock 140,000 miles.
I need to replace a lot of my front end parts. That is not a problem, as I have done it many times in other vehicles. My concern is the front coil/strut itself. I am after a factory ride, no off-roading, I need to replace both strut and coil. I have looked at many brands from many different sites like rockauto, summit, shockwarehouse even the manufacturers website. Some say 4wd only, some say 2wd only, others say both 2wd/4wd for the same part number. Are the front coil/strut assembly’s the same for 2wd/4wd? Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't have a certain answer for you, but I'm going to say they'll almost certainly work. The TRD coils are supposed to be progressive load and have a stiffer Bilstein shock, which may be the difference in part numbers you are getting.

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing some more research. Still cant find an exact answer. I am coming to the conclusion that any would work. Not sure why one site would say it fits and another says it won't. Just an example. Monroe quick struts part# 171351L on rockauto website says 4wd. Same part number on summit says 2wd and 4wd. I am getting this conflicting info from other brands too.
