Detonation?

Well i adjusted my timing yesterday and it stopped making a scary noise when the pedal is al the way to the floor. Which is why i changed it. I thought the specs for a 22r was 8 degrees before tdc. I am kinda sure i got it right (easy thing to do) but on my way home from work as i down shifted from 4 to 3 and let off the gas and clutch to slow down i heard a funny noise. It was about 12 in the morning and my memory is a little hazy now but i was wondering if anybody could explain what detonation sounds like? I know it may be hard to write down a noise but any help is appreciated.

I am gunna go see if i can reproduce it and recheck the timing.

Thanks

If it sounded like marbles being shaken around in a tin can, that is detonation.

ok thanks, i dont think it is detonating then. It sounds more like a quiet pop, it only happend when down shifting and not giving it gas. When the RPMs jump up when the truck slows down. But i adjusted it a little and that wqent away too!
