Deckplate Mod Questions?

Deckplate Mod Questions?
So I have recently heard about this "Deckplate Mod" but I am completely stumped. I don't know exactly what it is... I have a 1996 Tacoma 3.4 V6. Can someone link me to a tutorial or just explain it to me what it does and how to do it?

The idea is more air through the air box by putting a deckplate- a recloseable port- in the front if it. Basically, you remove the air box, make an appropriate sized hole, install deckplate, reinstall.
