When I picked them up we took them out of the boxes and put my old ones in the same boxes - the guy actually said "even if you tear a boot." I thought that was a pretty good deal.

so I stopped by Carquest this afternoon. they wated roughly $125 for the axle. With a core of about the same. So I would have spent about 250!!!! without the core. thats way too much.

don't have any experience with cv axles for 4runners from the chain stores, but have lots of experience with autozone cv axles for accords and they are utter total crap....in fact, as soon as I installed them they started to pop......was lucky enough to find a good axle guy here in town and he hooked me up with a new set for 190(got back my money from autozone which was 140).

the axle guy said that autozone's cv axle manufacturer fired its 4000 employees in south carolina to set up shop in mexico.....turns out ppl in mexico are so uneducated that they have them grind off all the hard metal, regardless if it needs it or not, your left with a soft easily-pitted metal cv ball/bearing and housing.....so what usually happens is that your popping like crazy around the corners but your boots are fine and in good shape, really frustrating

I don't know about the other chain stores, but i'm sure they are going to have to do the same outsourcing to keep up with autozone
