Cruise Switch

Anybody know how to remove the cruise switch on the steering wheel on a 3rd gen? The on-off switch is going bad.

never done this before, but I have looked at that area because I was going to put in the fog light control stalk. There are two screws on the front (behind the steering wheel, not on the steering wheel though, you have to turn the wheel to find them) remove those, then there is a screw on the bottom on the column, remove that too. The two plastic pieces should now snap off (you might have to remove the knee/kick panel) Then there should be some screws holding the cruise stalk in place.

You have to pull the cover off of the steering wheel and you have to remove the clockspring. In order to do that, make sure your wheels are pointed straight forward, it helps making sure the clockspring is set correctly. Its pretty easy if you dont get in a hurry.

I had to get a new switch about 2 hours before I was going on a Coast to Coast trip. In a rush to put it in, I broke my clockspring (NOT GOOD). Not wanting to drive from DC to LA with cruise, I ran wires from the cruise wires under my dash up along the console and mounted my cruise control right beside my shifter. It served its purpose and to be honest was pretty cool, I could rest my elbow on my armrest and still adjust my cruise. I wish I had some pictures of it.
