Question cruise shuts off using signal lights

On my 98 4Runner SR5, when running on cruise control, and if I use the signal lights to change lanes or exit the expressway, it shuts the cruise control off. I had recently read about low brake fluid levels causing a problem like this but the dash indicator would flash before it shut off. Mine does not do that. I had gotten indication that my brake fluid was low due to brake pad wear but when I topped it off again I still had the problem. Now here is the real clinker. I recently changed the brake/tail light and elevated brake light from bulbs to LEDs. Since this is the only thing different, has anyone ever experienced this or heard of it happening before??? Since the signal lights and the brake lights are two separate circuits does the cruise sense the lowered resistance in the brake light circuit and take it to mean a bulb or fuse is open?
I have searched every Toyota engineering site I can find and have found nothing related to brake light loading and cruise control operation.
HELP!
