'92 4Runner SR5 - I now know that it does NOT have springs in the front suspension.

BUT whenever I make a HARD right or lef turn, I hear this piercing creaaking noise. Sounds like metal being stretched or twisted.

I dont go off roading a lot in it. And when I do....it's light.

Do I need new shocks/struts?

 

It's your steering stops. You need to lube them every time you do an oil change. Here's what to look for:

so if we dont have a service manual, how do we know what kind of grease to use in the fittings, molly or lithium. ~KyLe

 

Any kind, it doesn't matter.

 

You wont find anything in the service manual about putting grease on the stops. The manual will tell you to replace the plastic caps on the stops. The problem with this is, they wear away very fast. You could keep buying new caps, but I'm sure they aren't cheap at the dealer. So, instead, just throw some nice thick grease on the areas shown on the picture. They aren't "fittings" per se, but just contact points which are making the noise. You don't have to have a grease gun as your not pumping grease into anything. Just dip your finger in a tub of grease, and wipe it on the areas shown.

Ya, that's all you need to do. Just remember there are two on each side...a front one and a rear one.

 

I have a similar sound of my 95 so I greased the heck out of the stops.

Turns out my idler is just barely kissing the frame. The steering stop thing is a lot more common and painfully easy to remedy.
