Agreed.

It is quite common for a shop to farm out work of this nature. Shops discount their work to each other and help each other out in this manner all the time. Their original quote to you should remain valid, and any future guarantee on the work will remain their responsibility to make right as well, not the shop they farmed it out to, unless you choose to agree to that.

Do not assume that the original priced quoted will now be no good. Wait and see.
But -
If they intend to shift your job to another shop and expect you to be bound to new terms that you did not agree to or contract for - they are in error. Threaten to hire a lawyer. You do not need to hire one, by the way - file in small claims court. DID you sign a work order? If not, do you have any way to prove what they quoted you, and that you did not agree to any new terms? Any witnesses?

By the way, the Better Business Bureau can do nothing to help you. Small Claims Court can. Your State Attorney General's Office can.

I had never received a written quote. I originally got my quote from them over the phone then I drove to the shop later that day so they could see exactly what they would be dealing with. I was told $500 and said I would be a bit flexible on the price.

I ended up paying $700 for the work done, not the entire $1200 I was estimated by this same shop a few weeks before hand. I'm not sure if the shops made some deal with each other to lower the price or how it worked out, but $700 was acceptable at best to me.

I certainly won't go back to the original shop after what happened. The owner of the second shop was pretty understanding of the situation and told me the he didn't get the truck until this past wednesday. He said it came to him because the guy at the original shop was on vacation and they couldn't fit it into their schedule. I wish they would have told me that to begin with..

On a side note, I had to drive it a bit on the highway to get it home. While I didn't try to accelerate hard, I was easily able to hold 65mph uphill where as before I would bog down to 45 even with the pedal floored.

 

Great everything worked out and your side note should be the most important part of the message. That must feel so much better...

 

How high does it rev going like 65 on the freeway? I'm getting some 5.29's and am debating whether I should put them in with my 33's or just wait and get 35's...?? Also... glad you didn't have to pay $1200... I think they could have done better than $700 though.
