Yeah, I have been thinking about this also. Is it possible to do in the back of a 4runner with a benchseat? (not to hijack this dudes topic) I have heard of it being done before, with pick ups and what not. I would imagine it could be done. and to fill the space in the middle you coul djust put a center console in or something to that extent?

 

HEY!! i have been wanting to swap for a bench seat!! but i drive a tundra.. u think if we swap, the seats will fit?

I swapped '88 buckets for my '88 bench and everything bolted right up.

A friend of mine swapped a '95 Taco split bench into his '99 Taco that came with buckets.

 

Not sure what vehicle the original poster was referring to... For Tacomas:

- For the same year / generation, all seats conform to the same 8-hole mounting scheme. However, separate buckets and 60/40 buckets (they're really bench-like buckets, not bucket-like bench...) use all 8 holes. The single bench (Regular Cab) uses fewer holes (at least in later models).

- In later pickups / Tacos, all 8 hole locations are moulded in the cabin floorpan. To open up the additional holes for buckets, you need to knock / drill out the remaining holes and get additional bolts and nuts.

NOTE: 60/40's can be chopped down into matching sport buckets by an upholstery shop.

NOTE: There's no guarantee of compatibility among different eras / generations, so it's best to stay within-generation.

 

I had an 87 4wd with bench. I got 2 buckets from a camry I think or something. I had to drill a few holes and then bolt. Pretty simple. It was so much better than the beat up bench that I had. I was quoted 300 buck to repair. Buckets were free. Only drawback was I could only have 2 people in the front.
