Convert '04 PreRunner to 4WD

I recently had a minor accident in my '97 4WD 4Runner. Insurance totaled it, but let me buy it back for a little over $600. Other than minor front end damage, it's mechanically perfect. My Dad's got an '04 PreRunner. How much pain and misery would it take using my '97 as a donor to convert his truck to 4WD? I HAVE ALL drive train parts still working properly on the 4Runner. Thanks in advance.

You have the parts get under and look.

Have you searched your favorite Search Engine I know quite a few have done this

If your asking this question I venture it is more work then you want to do .

Otherwise you would be asking more specific questions

What skills do you have ??

Both engines the same ??

Electrical wiring skills to make the 4x4 system work

No doubt automatic merging the new transmission and T case to the prerunner

This is off the top of my head after a long day if it does not make sense

Point taken on the search engine. Both have 3.4, both AT. Been under the 4runner a million times. Never even really looked under the Taco. Was just just hoping someone would say no biggie, just plug and play. Definitely have the mechanical skills and tools. Might be lacking the ambition depending on exactly what stays and what goes. I'll do some searching. Thanks for the help.

It all comes down to your skill level and areas where your better then most .

As an example every body cries and moans about the Tacoma Frames.

I look and say it just a little 1/2 Ton truck no big deal Repair or just build a new frame

After years of stretching Day Cabs into Double Bunk over the road trucks to me it is simple

Sure your project is not that hard but lots of simple grunt work .

As I get older I look at something like this and think this is crazy but in my thirties and forties would have thought Wow Cool project

Like I wanted to put a Celica Body on a 4runner drive train have al the parts just found life getting in the way
