Confused Noob Question

Hi guys,

Sorry for this extremely noob question. I'm used to leaf springs and shocks only. I know what a coil spring is, I know what a shock is, what exactly is a strut? How is it different compared to a coil-over? My 2000 Taco comes with Coils and shocks right? Pictures might help. Thanks for putting up with this noob question.

tacos use a strut... a strut is very similar to a coilover but they are still different...

the whole suspension relies on the coil that is mounted to the shock body, this is a strut

some of what i have said isnt completely accurate, but it is close for the sake of trying to jsut describe it, as it gets more complex and i dotn want to confuse you more

Ok, well that makes sense for the most part. My question is then... can I simply get a coil over deal and swap it with the strut and remove the stock shock? Is that what the Tundra setups are like? You don't have to redirect me to the thread... I've read it all. I'm just trying to get a grasp of the different setups. Thanks.

Yes, you can, but I won't vouch for the "simply" qualifier. It might be simple and it might be major engineering - but yep a coilover can defo replace a spring and a shock or a strut combo. Actually it's a fine idea.
