cold weather radiator thingy muh-bobs

forgive me if its been answered. condemn me to eternal yotatech...somethin, anyways

what is the purpose of the cardboard or tarps or other things ppl put in the grill of their car or suv when it gets really cold. Is it to try to keep the cold wind off of the radiator? Then in turn this keeps the core warmer? i dunno Just curious. Thanks.

it's to keep more heat in the cooling system, they probably need to change the thermostat as it's probably sticking open...

exactly. i used to have to do it on my old '77 Dodge Colt because otherwise the heater would blow out cold air if the car was just idling. but on a newer vehicle? I don't know.

YuP You got it. DO NOT COMPLETELY block the rad or you will over heat. (You still need some air flow threw

If always opted to FIX the problem than stick a piece of cardboard infront of the rad. But I have a few buddies in that do that when it gets REALLY Cold IE: -37
