Post Cold fuel injection mod...

Hey all,

I was reading a post about cold air intake and this got me thinking about something one of my friends was telling me.

My friend used to have an old Dart (I think) with a 4 banger in it. He street raced it allot and one of the mods was a homemade cold fuel injection system (I guess you could call it that). Here's how he did it:

He used some PVC pipe and raped some copper tubing on the inside of the PVC pipe. He then ran his gas line to each end of this copper tubing. Next he filled this PVC pipe with dry ice. That's it!

He said it added some pretty good power to his 4 banger. Just thought I'd share that with you all. I'm not sure how it would work with the 4Runner's/truck's EFI but it worked great on his curberated (sp?) engine.

Thought I'd mention this. Have fun.

Heated Fuel actually vaporizes better and provides more power than cold gasoline. So, cooling your fuel on the way to the injectors probably isn't such a good idea.

Cold air however is a good thing.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I posted. I wonder why it worked so well for him though. I'll have to get up with him and see if he did anything else. Interesting....

This brings up another idea. I wonder if a person with the intake mod (Wasn't it you, Dr. Z, who designed that?) could pack some dry ice around PVC in the intake tube. Sort of like a poor mans intercooler or something. Something else to ponder...

Well, have fun

Yes, it was I who wrote the article for the mod. And the design in the article is my own. I had not really considered the intercooled concept too much because it seems like too much bother. I experienced plenty of gain for the effort involved with my mod, so I stopped there as I was happy.

I doubt I'll do much more with it. My next mods concerning performance are Headers, Flex-A-Lite Electric Fan, and the Unichip. Not necessarily in that order, however.

Peace!
