Coil Spacer Questions
Hey yall. Me and a buddy are about to install a Toytec coil spacer lift kit on his 2004 Tacoma. It's got the aluminum spacers, 2 Procomp shocks and add-a-leafs. I'm new to the IFS world (as I drive a 4x4 Wrangler and 4x4 79 F-150 both SFA.) So I'm curious about how hard it is to compress the coil-overs to install the spacers. Would the spring compressors that Auto Zone rents out be sufficient? Sorry if this is a Newb type question but I couldn't find my answer in the FAQ. Thanks guys. Also, it's got 3 inch spacers for the front, how much lift should he expect from one add-a-leaf per pack in the rear?

I actually put spacers on mine a few weeks ago. My friend and I had no experience either at the time and took us about 3 hours for the front I believe. Most of the time is spent compressing the springs, the rest is a piece of cake. I rented mine from advance, and once it started bending (spring almost fully compressed) we decided to quit. Turns out the 2.5 inch spacers fit in, and the top plate back on, but the little rubber bushing at the top was too thick and wouldnt fit. Had to put the strut assembly on as is, then ramp it up on a hill to have the weight of the vehicle compress it. If you do it right, the strut compresses and the nut rises off the top plate, so you can loosen it easily, stick the rubber bushing back in, then put your nut back on. A lot of work, but its a nice cheap lift in my opinion.

I felt fine compressing it, but the guy that was helping me decided we should not push it any farther since the compressor was starting to bend a little just from the way the force was applied. It was definately built to withstand it, but better safe than dead...
