cleaning throttle body
I have a 93 sr5 pickup 3.0L that is getting pretty horrible gas mileage and seems choked for power. I am goiong to try to clean the throttlebody. Can anyone give me some steps on how to go about that as I have never tried that before. Any other hints on how to get a little more power or better gas mileage would be greatly appreciated.

Well, since I had the engine in peices I went ahead and cleaned mine. The best stuff to us is "Berryman's." You can find it at any auto parts stores, and wal-mart probably carries it too. Best stuff to cut the grease. Take the throttle/cruise cables off the throttle body, and take the line to and from it off, and then unbolt it off the intake mani. I'd get a gasket ahead of time, you'll need one, and be sure to scrape the old one off. Then just get you a rage and that berryman's degreaser and go at it. If you're ambitious enough, you could also clean the intake mani. I got a ton of oil out of the one that I had... it had about 150k miles on it. Be sure and buy gaskets for this too if you take it off.

BG 44K fuel system cleaner is good stuff too. I've used it and it works. Helped my old Camry out quite a bit on idle and response. Some others hear have talked about Seafoam, but I've never used it.
You might want to change your fuel filter too.
It wouldn't hurt to change spark plugs, maybe wires if needed, and air filter too if its been a while.
Those are the first things that come to mind.
