That sounds like a nice setup; you're gonna have an awesome rig when you're done.

I tinkered a lot with the fuel mapping to squeeze out as much economy as I could without sacrificing performance.

well think about it if you need more power or just want it you might as well super charge it... i mean your stil getting great gas mileage for what you have... you could always buy a big v8 and hog down gas or you can make that have the power of a v8 and get good gas still no brainer.. sorry i didnt proof read and my typing is horrible.

A 1UZ would net better gas mileage than even a stock 5VZ 4Runner, and you get 260HP of super smooth, ultra reliable, naturally aspirated power with a ton of torque available from idle.

This doesn't pertain to the discussion at all not to mention a full rewire (sucks).

Is that what you're running?

It's a good power plant for sure but not one I want to undertake at this stage in the game. There is another member on here who was trying to sell his and it was in a 2nd Gen, I saw and heard it in person at the SE4RJ and wow! What a purrr it had, and reasonable power from what I remember. The wiring is getting easier with a few more folks switchin over to this motor. In my research the engine weighs almost as much as the 5vz +/- but the reason I shied away was because (1) I didn't want to rewire. Lame I know but c'mon (2)The power gain over a SC'd 5VZ just weren't enough of a benefit, though on the plus side you have similar hp to a SC w/o fuel mods and reliability is on your side. Thats just my 2 cents.

Still waiting on the motor but in no hurry, I keep throwing back the idea of not supercharging for the reason of simplicity and cost. I mean the poor 5vz doesn't have a great deal of power but it is enough for my activities. Guys I dunno, I feel like a flakey blond who cant make up her mind.

If you do SC I'd get rid of those big lights blocking air flow to your radiator. You'll want to extra cooling.

Regretably I decided not to charge. With additional equipment needed plus premium fuel and the possibility of a failure between Timbuktu and Canada I decided to keep the new engine NA.

I've been following this thread for a while. What reliability issues are you concerned about?

I'm curious because i'm in a similar boat as you trying to decide go, or no go.

Also, what exactly is a "AFR sensor calibrator". Still stuck on a few terms as you can see

Does anyone have any good leads on where to get some parts like the tensioner pulley and pulley arm?

I'm kinda anal about reliability and simplicity. I can work on my motor the way it is, I can fix most anything within a day or so and availability of parts in the middle of somewhere. A SC would add some complication to my plan of simplicity. Most any failure would result in a tow and not being able to fix the damn thing. While perhaps this sounds questionable at best that coupled with the lack of an addition of just under $2000 kept the project from being completed. Pulleys are available from URD as far as pulley arm???? Not a clue. I did regear a bit ago and that helped a great deal.
