Kyle mentioned the heads were the same from 85 on. My cousin spotted an 84 not too far from me that isn't in too bad of shape. They only want $500 for it and it's been there for less than a week. If I grab it, I would like to change it over to EFI if possible. Then it would be an 85, sorta. Would this 84 be about the same or more involved? Anyone know of any quirks with the 84s with it being the first year they were produced? I'm going to see it tomorrow.

i converted my '84 4runner over to EFI, its not too hard, the head is already drilled for the EFI intake, and 84 carb trucks with a EFB carb should have an o2 sensor (mine did), i started out with a complete dash harness out of a '86 truck and trimmed out what wasn't required, which was allot, i can give you some more info if you like, but I'm tired right now,

the '84 has analog fuel injection, while '85-88 or so have toyota EFI, and after that, they got the cleaned up intake plenum and TCCS injection.

if you have the guts from an '84 system, it's supposedly an easy swap. i think you can use a carbed distributor with that, since it's a fuel-only setup.

just remember, you can't swap between '81-84 and '85-95 long blocks. an '84 will have the rounded "tall" valve cover on it.
