center dash rattle

I have a rattle that's been bothering me the last week as it's gotten colder.

I know all cars creek and make a little noise when it's colder out, but I've been able to pinpoint this rattle to the center dash console.

I didn't like the fact it just pops off for fear that this might happen, and really prefer the idea of screwing things down.

Obviously I can't have that though.

Has anyone had any dash rattles from that center console in a 3rd gen, and if so, what did you do to stop it?

I know that's what it is, because when I lightly press on it while my wife drives, the rattle stops. It's basically a squeeking friction noise and it's constantly making it in the cold.

You should check to see if you can tighten any bolts in the console that may have came loose. If all the bolts are secure, try a small amount of WD-40 or put a small piece of that double stick 3M adhesive tape (the kind that has a thick padding between the sticky sides) between the squeaking pieces. Only uncover one of the adhesive sides if the parts needs to move (such as the lid on the center console).

bob,

go into our "tech" section and look for travis' write up on how to remove the center radio panel. you'll see what holds that together as well as what's underneath. maybe something is not tightened down or maybe there is bundle(s) of wire rubbing against something.

with all squeaks and odd noises, its best to ride shotgun and listen with a stethoscope or a simple rubber tube put up to your ear. maneuver it around until you pinpoint the sound and fix accordingly.

The 02 Tacoma had a recall on "Dash Rattle". You might want to check with Toyota>>>>
