CB arrived today!!

I'm excited!!

I ordered from alf enterprises, and I have to say that they had excellent service, I ordered it last friday, and I told them I needed to get it before this saturday because I was moving, so even though they only charged me 8 dollars for shipping!! (which is extremely cheap) they did 3 day select ups just to make sure I'd get it in time! Now that's what I call service.

Quick question, do I HAVE to have a fuse box when installing this? because it says:

"Connect the red lead of DC power cord to an accessory 12 volt fuse" What does that mean? Sorry I'm no electrical wizz at all!

The next step says to connect the orange lead to a constant 12v fuse (ie: cigarette lighter or direct to battery) ok I understand that, so what's the other step for?

Thanks.

I dunno, and even if I did know it probably wouldn't be appropriate to say on the boards haha.

Hmm...what do you guys think are good handle names?

Tom here are the pics of the wires.

Alright, welcome to CB ownership
What I did was ground the black and twisted the orange and red together and connected them to a auxiliary fuse box I installed that gives me power regardless of whether or not the engine is on.

If you don't want that I think (I THINK) you can just wrap those wires around some of the in-cab fuses.

I strongly suggest you take a look at Corey's auxiliary fuse box write up in the tech section. That's helped me a bunch!

Have fun installing! I know I did

Sounds like they are saying the orange goes to constant 12v (for memory settings), the red goes to switched 12v (hot when car is on or key turned to "accessory"), and the black one is a ground. Connect the ground to an existing bolt somewhere convenient to the CB. I have the same one (still in the box ) My cig lighter doesn't work with the car off, if yours is the same, go to the battery for the orange one.

I wasn't thinking about it because I have the aux. fusebox and just wired it straight.

So nyah!

The best thing I can suggest is this. You can pull out a fuse in the fuse box for one of your accessories that is switched by the ignition to connect your red wire. This is so you don't run down your battery by accidentally leaving your cb turned on. The orange wire can be connected to either the battery directly (posotive terminal) or by a fuse that has constant power. I.E. the dome light. This is to retain any stored settings. You can wrap your wire around the fuse and stuff it back into the slot, but I wouldn't recommend this. You can go to a parts store and find Fuse jumpers and you will need a connector that crimps onto the end of your wire. This plugs directly onto the fust jumper. This is a much cleaner and safer install. If you have access to a test light you can turn on the ignition with the fuse that you want to use pulled out and test to see which side in the fuse terminal is posotive. The light will light up. Connect the fuse jumper to the negative side so if the fuse blows your equipment (cb) is still protected. Connect your grounding wire (black) to a bolt under the dash somewhere, especially if you can find one without a painted surface. You will get a better ground that way. Sorry so long. Hope this helps.

Looking good man.. looking good. I should smack you for not getting in on the cobra group buy a few months ago... but at least you finally did it.

You will find on your cross country trips that having that CB will save your ass with the cops. Truckers know where all the "smokies" are.

Haha I wish I could!!!

We ran into soooo many snags today. First we couldn't figure out how to run it straight to the battery, then we couldn't figure out where to ground it, then we couldn't figure out how to put the connector thingy on the coax cable.

Well we figured all that stuff out, finally!! Except when I was tightening the bolt for the ground for the battery and cb, the freakin bolt broke in half!! So I had to run out to autozone with a friend to pick up more cable and bolts. Really pissed me off. Now all we have left to do is to solder the connector (which I don't have a soldering gun) and connect everything back together, connect the antenna to the fire ring, and put everything back and tune and pray to god it works.

I kept on asking myself why I do this, buy 110 radio/antenna and just stress myself out over the install. And then buy 30 bucks more of installation equipment.

You guys that have this installed already, do you have pics of how your coax is hooked up to the connector and how it looks soldered. Thanks.
