Catalytic converter help

My 02 Taco just ran out of its factory warranty period and my check engine light came on. I plugged an OBDII reader and it gave a code of P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). WTF the warranty is out and now I am stumped why the CAT would start screwing up now. I erased the code and now the check engine light is back on. Does anyone have a CAT they want to sell or how can I unplug the sensor for that error code? Or does anyone know what I should do now?

Yep, and if for some reason that doesn't pan out for you, no worries. An aftermarket high flow cat will run you about $100 +install.

Let us know what the dealer says.

Where can I get a high flow cat from and will it affect the computers sensor readings?

Well, if your cat is truly bad, then get a new Toyota one under warranty. If Toyota will not cover it for whatever reason, and that is the problem, then get a Carsound cat off ebay.

You really should push this with the dealer though...unless you have a mod that would directly affect the malfunction. But, judging by your sig, you don't.

A Carsound cat will operate with your computer.

Call Toney's Muffler Shop in Richmond at 804-231-6063. I had them do my 99 4runner. Former President of Local F-173
