Cat. Converter Options (Easy Question)

Cat. Converter Options (Easy Question)
Twice now the connection flange for the inlet of my catalytic converter has blown. Apparently the engine generates more preassure than it can flow so I need a new one, right.
I have already settled on another flowmaster 40 series, I had to switch back to stock after a rock bit the first one. That will be helpful to I assume?
So basicly, what are my optins for a cheap cat, I don't need a lot of performance? (What, Where, How much)
Also, with the muffler, is it better to have the outlet on the drivers side, center or passengers side. I had it centered before but I also didn't have a tailpipe. I'm mounting it "flat ways" (the larger sides of the case facing up and down)
Thanks for any help, I plan to go to Summit this weekend to pick up the parts.

First of all, I don't think switching cats is going to ultimately solve your problem. It sounds to me like you have a warped flange or need to replace the gasket at the flange itself. Even the smallest hole or exhaust escape can cause the "doughnut" to get blown to pieces. Have you replaced the gasket/doughnut and tried re-torquing the flange?
If you really do need a new cat, Car Sound cats are generally the best deal around. Ebay has them.
