can't start the car

can't start the car

Hey guys! i have a problem starting the engine, while it's still hot. it starts, and stops in a second. The car starts ok when the engine is "cold" can somebody tell me what can it be??

it would be helpful if you could list some details about your vehicle, mileage, prior maintenance on the starter, battery, etc

it's 2000 4runner with 107k miles on it. never change the starter. new battery, new fuel filter.just change it a month ago. new spark plugs,and spark plugs wires, i changed them last summer.

its not uncommon for a vehicle w/ your mileage to have worn starter contacts. 4crawler has a good writeup on how to replace them. even though his is for a 1st gen, it is still the same process. try searching "3rd gen starter" or "3rd gen starter replacement" to see if you can find some threads on the topic. ive seen 2 or 3 threads on it. i recall that the starter is a little difficult to take out though but replacing the brushes is easy and signficantly cheaper than replacing the starter
