To post a bond W/ a registered importer for one and a half times the duitable value could be too much $ for me. I still have a bit of research to do, and I don't want to give up on owning a diesel 4 runner.

The Diesel vehicles you could import from Canada are the BJ60, HJ60, and BJ70. They are all landcruisers.

The newest diesel out of Canada you will be able to get will be a 1988. After that Toyota of Canada was axed and we got all the same stuff as you guys, which meant no more diesels
... Darn you yanks
I suggest you go to http://forum.ih8mud.com . Visit the internation cruiser section and read the "Everything I learned about importing" thread (In the FAQ section) . Basically unless you want to spend an insane amount of money, the vehicle must have either been sold in Canada or be older than 25 years. You can not import a vehicle that was imported to Canada to try and get around that legality. In Canada the vehicle only needs to be 15 yrs or older... so we get all the cool stuff 10 yrs earlier
Only 2 Years and 6 months and 18 days untill we can import HDJ-80s!!! As soon as that day comes I'm importing a LHD 5-Spd locked HDJ-80 *drool*
Diesels will have no problem passing emissions, especially if you fill it with a tank of biodiesel before you get it tested. In the ih8mud forums look for a post made by a guy who had his 20 yr old 2H Diesel engine emissions tested. He didn't have it tuned up or anything and it passed with flying colours.
Cheers

You can also import diesel pickups, we had them in Canada from 81 to 87, including turbos from 1985 to 87.
The US 25 year exclusion is nothing but protectionism, same as the Canadian 15 year exclusion.
Why? Save Detroit's sorry ass and keep the peons from fueling their vehicles other than at the oil industry's pumps.
