Calling all fast 4runners

Correct, and Turbochargers use compressed exhaust gasses to make boost, which is synonomous with turbo lag. A blow off valve releases excess pressure when you let off the gas after a boosted condition, and takes stress off the turbo, thus reducing lag when you get back on the throttle.
Superchargers use an anti-surge valve, or by-pass valve, or pressure release valve. (There are many different names)

My kills
I've raced and beat my uncle in both his cars:
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
2003 Lexus SC 430 (short race. I think he would have pulled me if it would have been longer)
Then there's always the misc. Honda's, other Toyota's

Hey 96:
We should race....see what the difference would be. You have a n/a Runner I believe??
I know mine would be quicker than it is if I didn't have the 285/75s but it's still pretty quick. I don't think my s/c has that loud of a whine. Maybe I'm just us to it but I don't really notice it.

I am N/A. That would be interesting to see. Obviously you would beat me, but I may be able to take you off the line with clutch-abusing launch. (You are an Auto right?)
Or, we could just go to my little testing road and run times from point A to point B.
It would be cool to see your truck regardless. PM me. This weekend may not be good though, I will be shoveling 15 tons of rock.

Yes..I'm auto. Anytime is good for me. Your only a couple of miles away.
N/A is short for (on this forum) "normal aspiration" / stock air induction...in otherwords...without supercharger

F/I means forced induction
edit: oops someone already answered it.
The sound clip was from me. I don't have the sound clip on my work computer and my DSL is not hooked up in my new apartment.
There is no "blow off valve" sound with the supercharger. In fact there isn't a blow off sound in my turbo'ed celica. Since the excess air is re-routed to my intake, it doesn't make the "fast and furious" sound when I shift. I could get a blow off valve and have that sound, but it would actually make my car slower because the excess air would be going to atmosphere...
<96 Runner> that's a pretty nice Si, I will have to scan in a pic of my old one autocrossing!!
Bob: that was a once in a lifetime joke. I have never told a joke since!!

I wouldnt mind seeing a pic of your celica too. Those are pretty cool.
Yeah, that Fast and Furious sound that they audio-dubbed in from the Eclipse was a bit excessive. Seriously, the guy was idling and blipping the throttle and you could hear it. That's not a sign of high boost, its a sign of poor tuning. Not to mention the floorboard falling out while squeezing a 3 stage NOS system on a stand alone FMU. Good grief, I hope the sequel is better, but they rarely are. Enough venting.

Anyways, its totally believable that a floorboard can fall out when hitting the NAAAWWWSSS! Mine fell out when I when I put in the preimum blinker fluid!!

I thought it was best when he was in that drag race and went through 8 or 9 gears!

I also dont remember 8-9 shifts on the same car either. Time to go watch the DVD for the 1000th time....lol
The floorboard falling off IS a joke though - I laughed my ass off in the movie theater when that happened and when the fire came out of their exhuasts.... (which can be done with a little modding, but it's kinda stupid really unless you wanna burn someone's front bumper off when they are behind you...lol)

Things I thought were amusing, to say the least...
The two 55 gal. drums in the hatch...he had enough funny gas there to get everyone twisted...
The launch; Turbo, AWD, big sticky meats and he somehow bogs the launch and car is all over the road. How hard is it to rev to 5k, dump the clutch and hold the wheel straight?
The speedo holding steady at 140 then suddenly jumps to 160 in like 1/10 of a second.
My grandma in a Pinto could beat Paul Walker and his Eclipse if he drives like that in real life...

Haha, any of you who want to see what your S/C'ed trucks will do against a 4x4 5.9 let me know. Here are the stock stats for a 5.9 Limited:
1998 Jeep 5.9 Limited (Motor Trend Jan/98):
0-60 - 6.80 sec.
1/4 Mile - 15.20 sec.
For reference to two SUV's who thought they were hot ˟˟˟˟˟ and ended up bowing down to the J double E to the P.
2000 AMG ML55 5.5L (Car & Driver Dec/99):
0-60 - 6.80 sec.
1/4 Mile - 15.30 sec.
2000 BMW X5 4.4i (Motor Trend Jan/00):
0-60 - 7.50
1/4 Mile - 15.80

And if you want to compare yota's vs heeps, at least compare apples to apples. The 4.7 v8 is what you'd compare to. And the 4.7L with a blower would eat that heep ALIVE...and last longer and get better milage and be more reliable and would still offroad just as well, if not better than that heep.
Im sure the heep is a great all around vehicle, but I'll be sticking to yodas.
Not flaming just posting an opinion.

I think it's worthwhile to point out that the launch is VERY important when comparing 1/4 mile ET's.
A perfect launch at a dragstrip using a tree is 4/10ths of a second. It's VERY easy to win a race in that first half-second against someone that would have beaten you clean if they were paying attention.
I know that a rodded out 4Runner can beat a number of things that no one would expect, but it's also important to keep the driving skills in mind. So, if folks are going to post their 1/4 ET's, then I think it's worthwhile to look at the R/T's as well.
I'm not discounting any folks' stories at all. I'm just pointing out that there's more to a drag race than horsepower.
