A/C question

A/C question
On my air conditioning amplifier there is a variable control. I was wondering if someone could possibly tell me what it is for. I thought it could be an idle up adjustment, but I have the plastic idle up adjustment screw on the side of the intake plenum. It's on a 94 22re. Thanks.
