A/C problems

A/C problems
Hey guys,
New to the forum, but use a YZF-R1 motorcycle forum frequently, and get a lot of good info. I have an 01 prerunner, and going down the interstate, the A/C will quit working. It won't come on until I kill the engine and restart, then it works fine. It will not kick back on until I shut the engine off, so I assume it's some electrical problem. My mechanic thought it might be the compressor coil, so we replaced it, but it's still having the same trouble. Any info would be appreciated.
