Buying a pickup?

I found a 90 pickup for a good price with the SR5 and LX (I think) packages. The thing is I went to see it and the motor was out and so was the crank. After some investigation the dealer told us that it had a bent rod, and that they would have it ready by tomorrow at noon (HAHAHAHA). that was last week! So what do you think. If the motor is shot how much can I get a used one or a rebuild for? Also where do you suggest I get these parts from? The truck has 190K on it so assuming this guy gets the thing running again what are some common problem areas that I should look at (large and small)? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm assuming we are looking at a 22 RE 4 cylinder motor. A low end rebuilt one can be had for around $1200. Lots of these jobs have cut corners big time, No new timing chain, no new rings, water pump, oil pump, all new sensors etc. You never really know what's been replaced unless you get a written parts list and trust the builder. Un-rebuilt used motor for around $850. A properly rebuilt 22RE is around $1600 or more.

I'd keep looking if I were you.

I am sorry the motor is a six cylinder if that changes anything. Even at 1600 for a new motor the truck still seems like a good deal. So what else should I look for? Also how much for a used 6 cylinder or a rebuild kit? Thanks for the info.

anything on the 6cyl is MUCH more expensive to do compared to the 22re, generally. my buddy told me you could to a chevy swap cheaper than getting a new v6 motor.... but then again, jap motors will last forever
