buying my First 4Runner. Questions...
New to this forum. Got a story and some questions.
looking to buy a 2000 Sports Pkg 4Runner. 37k miles total, in great shape (slight front fender ding was told by the dealer they can fix that no prob and 2 small chipped marks on the front driver side fender flare, touch up paint) Power everything and tow pkg. Minus moonroof, leather int. and 6 disc changer. Looks like it has the original tires. they'll last about another year I guess. Champange Sliverish color very nice for the AZ heat. Says he can let it go for $19,200k about 19,600k with tax title lic.
Keep in mind this is more than I spent on my last 2 cars combined.. maybe 3 cars.. 8) Kelley BB says this retail would run about $21,500 to about $22,000
Everything Ive read and looked up says this is one great Rig. But Im clueless about the 4Runners other than the fact, that it calls to me.
Soo I go in tomorrow to make a final decision, anything I should know about the 2000 4Runners? what should I watch out for? thanks

It's the hood scoop that is calling your name, isn't it? The silver is a great color.
Will it be a wheelin' rig or a street thing? We can tell you a couple of other things to look for if you plan to take it off pavement.
I *think* the only general issue that year had was a fuel gauge TSB or whatever it was.
Welcome to the board!

It doesn't have the Highlander (sport) package then if it doesn't have the scoop. You can get one aftermarket, but it's $. Now's your chance to keep looking. Don't be like everyone else and have "The Envy!" Yes, it is cosmetic only.
You didn't answer my other question.

2000 4x4 SR5, with leather, power everything, no dings anywhere, perfect interior, 42K miles on it, brand new MICHELIN tires, for $20,900 and mine listed for around $24,900. Yours sounds a little high priced, maybe by a $1000 or so, but see if they will come down, if not, look on, there are LOTS of used 4Runners for sale with good options, low mileage.

Here is what I bought.....
2000 4runner,completly loaded limited, 2wd,about 50k,new goodyear tires, silver, perfect interior, perfect exterior, 1 owner...
and I paid 16k (before TT&L), definetly shop around first. Where I am there is a LOT of competition when it comes to buying cars, so don't settle for the first one (?) you see.
Good luck!

Hey, I'm in Tucson, AZ too!
$19,600 for 2000 4Runner Sport seems to be a pretty good deal. However, make sure the car has been originally registered in AZ and not in some other state.
Also, take the car to some mechanic you know to make sure there are no hidden problems (leaks, missing parts, etc...). Normally if you're buying the car from reputable dealer, they'll never have a problem with lending you a car for a day or two to let you check things I mentioned above.
I hope this helps,

My advice? Buy what you want or think you might want up front. This board is full of guys who wished they had gotten a rig with 4-wheel drive, or came with the factory locker, or a hood scoop, or whatever. Don't settle.
My personal opinion, which is biased of course, is look for a newer 3rd gen 4runner, 4X4, with the locker, for low miles. Remeber that for a Toyota, anything under 100 K could be considered low miles if the vehicle was taken care of.
Most people don't even know what that locker is good for, but just take a look at a few threads here, and realize that the rear locker is an extremely coveted accessory. Once you get bit by the wheeling bug, and get more wrapped up into Yotatech, your wallet won't know what hit ya!

Wow thanks for all the replys.
It is a 4wd not the 2wd. I'll ask about the Locker and see if its on it. ( I too dont know what that is. Time to read some of the older threads.) This morning I called the sales rep told him "I fell in love with the 4Runner 3d gen is becuase of the way it looks. The Hood IMO adds alot. 90% of car sales is asthetics. I'd hate to buy this 4runner and always shake my head thinking damn! I Shoulda got the scoop."
He called back said "his manager" agreed to go in on a new hood with me 1/2 each. I'd get a voucher saying: 1 scoop hood painted to match and installed, take it to the local Toyota dealer to claim it. Plus I keep the old hood too.
only $490.00 more
I asked about it being the sports pkg and why the hood wasnt on it originally.
he checked said this is the SR5 version with Sport pkg addons by the orginal owner . She didnt get the hood? Did get the fenders, tow pkg and roof rack, no leather or moonroof though..
