Buying a 2004 Tacoma & have ?'s
Hello all,
I've owned a '93 Xtra-Cab 4wd Pickup for about ten years and have been very happy with my truck. However, due to an unfortunate legal situation described in this post, I have to look for a new truck. Anyhow, I went and looked at this truck today. However, I have some concerns. The truck seems to be in decent condition for being seven years old. it has some blemishes, but it's a used truck.
Anyhow, The truck has SR5 and TRD badging and I don't understand why. I was wondering if anyone knew specifically what was in the 2004 Tacoma SR5 package. After searching, I think it might be luxuries, like power locks & windows, but this truck doesn't have any of that. Also, are not the TRD decals on the back of the bed part of the TRD package? It definitely doesn't have Bilstein shocks. I didn't notice an E-locker button (where would that be) and I don't think it's the TRD tire & wheel package. Honestly, I don't like the TRD graphics and would like to take them off. Especially if I don't even have the package. How hard are they to get off? Do you think I'll see differences in the paint and should leave them on?
I did put $100 down on the truck, so I plan on going to the bank tomorrow to borrow the rest of the money I need to purchase it. I just wanted to know what I was getting into before I pulled the trigger.

SR5 does not mean it has luxuries like power locks and windows. from the factory, all it means is Sport ralley 5 speed. ( SR5 ) but your truck doesn't have a 5 speed. but the SR5 package wasn't a "particular" package if i remember right... it has a list of things that could be included. for example... my truck is an SR5, yet it didn't come with a roof rack, sun roof, rear spoiler, or tow hitch. but I do have power windows, and locks. but with a 5 speed...
as far as not having bilstein shocks... your truck is used. therefore, you dont know what the previous owner/owners could have done. they might be swapped out, might be lifted, you need to check for these things.
also the E-locker button is located on the left side of the steering column.

Its deff not an elocker. I can tell because the rear axle drain plug is on the right (passenger) side.
Those TRD badges must be aftermarket or the dealership screwed the buyer.

Sucks about your 93!!!
As far as I know the TRD was not available on 4cyl's either. Most TRD's will be pretty decked out. Like Scuba said, that's not a TRD and has no locker.
For the $1-$2k you can save with a base 4cyl over a TRD you can put in an ARB locker and have a better traction and gas mileage than a TRD package...
