a few hours of idling? damn, your truck must hate you. i know i would, if i was your truck. i could understand for maybe half an hour in traffic, but longer than that id turn off the engine (even in desert heat), but a few HOURS? no no.... turn her off

i just started being sercurity for my company and i do turn it off i am here 14 hrs, but it has been cold the past few nights so i normally have it on long enough to warm the runner up, but i sometime just let it idle for a while, but never the whole time im at work. So i was wondering how i can get it to stop burning as much gas. Could someone help me out.

Wait a minute! Your in Texas!! Thats desert compared to here. 16 degrees is cold, 54 is NOT cold. I beg for weather to even get close to 40. Get a coat! I wear a sweatshirt all winter and I'm a lil cold, but I don't complain. And yes, idling is BAD for you engine for prolonged periods of time.

You've already gotten several suggestions. Just seems you don't like the truth that folks are telling you.

To burn less gas while sitting still, the engine should be "off." Simple.
