Blower Switch

Brr! Today was the first day I needed to actually use the heat in my 89 truck. However, I noticed on the first 2 blower settings, nothing at all was coming out. The higher 2 settings pushed out a lot of air and seemed to work as intended. I assume the blower switch is what is likely to be the problem? Is it pretty simple to R&R?

Thanks.

Could also be the blower resistor that has gone. It is just below the heater assembly, should have 4 wires attached. It adds or removes resistance from the circuit to control the motor speed. Check that first.

The black/white wire is the ground, and there should 3 different resistances between that and the 3 other wires. If you find any open circuit between the ground and one of the other 3 wires it's toast.

The third blower setting on my truck had never worked. One day the switch was just frozen. I replaced the switch which had fused itself stuck and the third blower setting works now. Could be the switch or the resistor.

As long as this tread is already going...

The fan speed switch for my temp control has been a problem eversince I brought my rig. Twice a year I replace the switch because of the loss of a speed setting and eventually all speeds. Each and every time the switch had melted and fused into an unrecognizable blob. I replace this switch so often I have 4 more on hand. I've checked fuse size, wiring and even did some testing on potentual power surges. Any ideas? The screws holding everything together may as well be velcro.

I have changed out the switch several times, and its the same thing, it shorts out. It appears to have a small spring and bearing in the switch for the indents. If falls apart and shorts out the switch. I spoke to a Toyota Rep in Houston, and they don't seem to have any concern for the switch. They sell lots of them, the dealer that I vist always has them in stock.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am going to pick up a new blower switch and I assume that will fix the problem.

On topic, I don't have a FSM. How easy is this to replace? Anyone have a guide for this or is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks.

Its not hard, you have to take the a/c panel down to get to the switch. I think the switch or the housing has a tab that has to be release on the top side of the switch, then it will come out. I used very thin metal to slide between the top of the switch and housing, it came right out.
There is a pic of how it look during the removal/intall.

I assume this is what I am looking for?

They don't list that switch for an 89, but do you think it would be the same for a 95?

That looks like it but for that price, I'd get the OEM toyota switch from a toyota dealer.
