Black smoke on startup

Black smoke on startup
My 1988 2wd 2bbl carb Toyota Truck has problems when it first starts up.
First off it has black stuff come out everytime if it has been sitting for more than 8 hours. The black stuff looks like soot and sprays the ground for about 5 seconds. Then it has rough "wavy" idle like it wants to stall.
The truck runs great after it has been running later in the day or when it is not cold outside. Please advise how I can check and fix this problem?

Check the choke setting and make sure the choke is opening properly (may be sticking).
