Black smoke and gurgling start

Hey guys, I havent been on here lately cause I've had the flu for about 3 weeks straight now. Anyway, I went to start my Runner the other day and noticed that it took it a little bit to get goin...I figured that since it was just really cold that was the problem. Did it the next day, it was a lot warmer about 45 - 50 degrees it did it again. It would start with the RPM's really low and be hesitating and such and if I were to rev it would be like this for a few minutes and then it would finally start acting normal. Well today, I started it with the windows down and noticed a pretty good amount of blackish/white smoke coming from the exhaust. Obviously, oil is getting into the cylinders.

What are the possible scenarios, leaking valve gaskets, bad rings, some other kind of leak, headgasket...what do you guys think it is.

Once the smoke has cleared, no pun intended, it all performs fine...its kind of a sudden thing to have happen.

Lemme know what you guys think it could be!

Take it to the mechanic-NOW. Otherwise you may be paying for a new engine, if it is not too late.

Turns out...the smoke isnt black...its just white. I think I overreacted. I went out this morning to show my dad and he said he thinks its just the normal white smoke you get when you first start it up in the morning. We held a piece of paper behind the exhaust to see if anything stuck to it, just water. Instead of black smoke I got a bunch of water, I'm not sure what thats all about. I'm thinkin about gettin a compression test done to make sure everything is A OK with that.

But I will keep an eye on the smoke and how fast it burns oil and then take it in to have it checked out if it keeps it up.

White smoke, could be the head gasket.

Get it checked out professionally dude, or you COULD be sorry if it progresses...mine smoked like a chimney with white smoke...it was bad oil seals, but I just rebuilt the whole engine now instead of later.

Keep us informed and update the thread when you get it resolved. Good luck!
