97 v6 manual tran, 126k

I have issue with high rph acceleration, anyhting above 3500 feels feels like a belt or something is slipping, especially in higher gears..... the engine runs smoothy and revs up, but I dont accelerate unless I let off and accelerate more smoothly.
I wanted to see what you guys thought it was sounds like

Maybe the MAF sensor... do you have a aftermarket filter in there...The oil gets onto the MAF (Mass air flow sensor) and does what your saying screws with the horse power as to where your not going fast at all or atleast not fast enough...

 

If the engine is accelerating normally under load but it still feels like you are slipping it probably is your clutch.

A MAF problem or compression issue wouldn't cause this; if it was a timing belt slipping, you wouldn't be running at all.

 

Hmm, its happens when Im already running in gear, but it could be the pad not able to hold at higher rpms? or throwout not keeping it tight maybe??

So just to eliminate possiblities, given I clean my intake out how do you reset the MAF? just take the fuse out? I dont have an aftermarket filter...but I did the airbox mod or whatever taking the elbow out. This problem is been coming and going

try this on a flat road... at those rpm's depress the clutch w/o lifting your R foot, release the clutch, it should jump a little as the clutch grabs. if it doesn't, this is likey the source of the problem.
could try bleeding it or adjusting too.

 

Just for the semantics, you don't "reset the MAF", you "reset the ECU".

Anyway... Either pull the negative battery cable for 30 seconds, or pull the "EFI" fuse which is in the fuse box under the hood (driver's side, on the fender, just behind the battery). The EFI fuse should work, and won't have to reset your clock or lose your radio presets.

 

Sorry I was using poor terminology, when I said pull the fuse I ment the ECU, I just couldnt remeber if it was ECT or ECU and didnt want to misquote ..nm

Put foot on brake and put truck in gear and let out the clutch.Dont give it any gas just let the clutch out in gear.If it dosent go dead right off the bat and chugs on for a second or two more than likely you need a new clutch.If you are going up a hill and step on the gas and the rpms go up but you dont speed up.You need a new clutch!
