From bad to worse...

Hey guys,
last week i was in a wreck and messed up the front end on my 97 runner. The estimated cost of repair will be around $1600, im supposed to get a 2nd quote today...i'll be sure to post some pictures. Anyways, I wake up this morning, go out to my car, get ready to drive away, and my back and butt start feeling wet. I look up and my sunroof is open. There was a big rain storm last night and of all the nights i accidently left my roof open, it decided to rain. Well thats not all, I dry everything off, get ready to leave and it wont even start...right about now i've just about had it.

I've had the starting issue before, but not this bad. Usualy every couple weeks when i turn over the engine it'll just click, so i do it again about 4 times and it finally starts up (once the engine is warm it wont do it, only if the engine is cold, and only every once in a while). Well today, of all days, its not working Period. It'll just click every time, i got out, checked the battery terminals and there was green acid build up, i used soda and a skrewdriver and got it all cleaned off. Once i re-attached the terminals, it still did the same old clicking. Plus my quote appointment is at 2 today, i better get this thing fixed soon.

If you guys have any suggestions or answers to my problem it'd be great, Thanks in advance for the help.

-Micah

Have you noticed if it has always had problem starting after it rains? Have you checked your spark pugs and wires?

Well, sounds like worn starter contacts to me.
Roger Brown provides great detailed info on that here http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Starter.shtml

Probably can't fix it by you appt. time but you should be able to tap or bang on the starter to get it working. Then do the fix this PM after getting contacts at a local Stealer. If you can at all wait a couple days to perform the repair, get em from Roger through the link.

Just turn the key from ON --> START, ON --> START rapidly and it will eventually catch. But yeah, it's gotta be the contacts. Took me an hour to replace mine. Easy and cheap.

Alright thanks for the help guys,
I took it by the shop today and dropped it off, they're gonna look at it tommorrow. Once i get that fixed i'll get my body repaired and then get the OME lift installed along with the 285s, then i'll be set...hopefully.

Thanks again,
Micah
