Well... Now I'm very curious as to what may be causing this issue. I would definitly take the rear tires back to a balancing shop. Couldn't hurt to check them again, you know, 2nd opinion.

good call, move both rear tires to the front and both fronts tires to the rear.......if it is the tires, the problem should now be in the front. very good call.

You're still under waranty right? I'd take it back to the dealer and let them shake it out for free.

I vote alignment

Cuz after putting new shocks/springs in, I felt my truck being a little shaky at higher speeds. It wasn't the steering wheel, but I could feel it underneath me. And you're supposed to get an alignment anyways after messing with the suspension, well I just got back from the dealer and my truck is pretty damn smooth.

Do you have a hard time turning? Or have you noticed any changes while turning?

I think having somebody drive beside you while you're driving is an excellent idea. That way you can see if the rim/tire is messed up, or check other things as well. Good luck

Good Times

I believe the problem will turn out to be minor at least I hope it will, but once fixed, DO NOT USE YOUR BRAND NEW 4RUNNER FOR OFF ROADING. Buy a older model, 1st or 2nd gen because off roading will damage the vehicle. Its a given. The 4th gen is far too beautiful and expensive to let rocks and deep holes and everything else take a toll on the truck. I've seen a few 93 or 95's for $6000.00--$10,000.00. Just my .02c

I bought for a purpose It's to be used in the way it's suppose to be and not be used on the streets for gettin my grub

I do understand that it's not a cheap vehicle but if driven carefully it's okay. In this case, maybe some driver error may be the cause of my misfortune.

Lesson learned But you know that won't prevent me from having some fun!

UPDATE:

Left work early so I can take a look at the underside to get a better perspective of my delimma.

Well, all I can say is I have a pretty large dent on my driveshaft I have no idea when I got it but I have a pretty good idea how it happened. Darn those rocks...

Anyway, Does anyone know how to change a driveshaft? Or how about a wrenchathon over the weekend for me? I can supply the parts/food (and the works) but I need some info on how easy this is to do. Is it better off taking it to the stealer? I can even show up at your place too if needs be (please keep it relatively close as I really can't drive far (not in the condition I'm in).

I'd like to do/learn as much as I can about replacing everything including this so I'm taking this in a positive perspective. Someone want to give me some direction here? I'm not worried about the price of the shaft as I know it'll be expensive. I have the service manual (vol1/2) and haven't checked on what is needed but I will take a look at it in detail.

I'm going to post a new thread on the driveshaft for everyone

Thanks for all the help guys.

I'll be calling up those places tomorrow and get a quick quote on how much it'll be so I can get a fix on it asap

Never did think that I'd have a aftermarket driveshaft but I guess it comes with the territory!

It's only like 8 bolts, 4 on each end and maybe some center support bearing bracket fasteners to remove. If you can change a tire or at least check the air pressure in one then you can do this. It's easy. I can have mine off and back on in about 20 minutes. the 4th gens may be different, I'll have to check on my wife's after work tonite. She usually gets a little skiddish when she sees me crawling under her car since she doesn't want any mods, "yet" !

There is a little more to it than that. Watch the phasing of the U-joints. This will tell you everything you need to know http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4...line-101.shtml Good luck.

That's a given. I figured he was getting the whole driveshaft assembly replaced. not just the shaft, so he wouldn't have to line up the yoke with the shaft and match up the u-joints.

is he just getting the shaft then? still it is pretty easy, as long as you line those up. also if you are only getting the shaft part and are going to use the same yoke then you might need to get the assembly balanced. but you said "money is no object" so I would opt for a complete assembly already balanced.

I'm going to give a few places a call and see what the best option is I'd rather keep it simple on my part so we'll have to see.

After looking underside a few more times, it looks like a relatively simple job.

Wish me luck!

Ok, I'm having the same symptons, I've taken the rear driveshaft off to see if that was the cause, and it's not. Does anyone else have any recommendations on what to look for. I'm taking it back in to get balanced and to see they are out of round or anything.
