Is there any easy, mechanical way to tell if its bad? I'm displaying a couple symptoms listed in the Haynes manual but I don't have a vacuum pump to test it.

Also, is the EGR tube the one that comes off the bottom of the valve or the one on the side? Me tinks its the bottom...just want to be sure.
