Is this bad?!?!

I just noticed this on my truck the other day. I just bought my truck 2-3 months ago and never noticed this. Could this cause any problems/decreased perfomance.

How does it run now? It looks like that vacuum line goes to that black nozzle right next to the silver box.

It seems like it runs ok. I dont know if the previous owner did this for a reason. Or he was just a had an extra zip tie.

that hose should go on the intake plenum where there are 2 hoses and that one nipple. What it does I have no idea....where does that hose run to?

there's one really easy way to find out! it's just a vacuum line. unhook it and plug it into that spot for a vacuum line right next to the hose. take the truck out for a spin and see if you notice anything different in your performance. if it gets better, then good. worse, then take it off and zip tie it shut again.

Under the hood there should be a vacum hose diagram.

don't know if his is the same way, but my sticker is worthless. can barely see what's written on there anymore. an repair manual would be better. i'd help you out but mine is back at home (and i'm up at college).

it shouldn't be too hard to find where it goes. the 2 possible spots (that we can see from the picture) appear to be different sizes. meaning, the hose will only fit snug on one of them. trial and error, 50/50

It looks like what you have circled is the egr valve but I bet it goes on that black piece just below it.

EDIT: I didn't look at your second circled pic but that's the one I'm talking about. However, after looking at my manual, it does show a vacuum line going into the top of the egr valve.

My manual says that's the EGR Valve for an 88 22R-E. I know yours is an 89 but my vacume diagram shows it should have one vacume line comeing off at the nipple Y+T=F highlighted. I can't make out any more specifics from your pic, but I'd try it and see what happens

I just edited my reply. Can you take another pic from farther away so we can see what else is located around it?

The bottom of the first diagram Nathan posted is very intersting. It looks to me like the EGR valve allows for the monitoring of the exhaust gas pressure. Does it look that way to anyone else? It passes through the exhause valve and into the headers and then branches off to a cooler then the the EGR valve which when open goes to the EGR vacume modulator and then what? At times those gases can go back into the throttle body? Or are they just routed to the EGR Vacume Mod for and end there? Nathan

From looking at the link above, it looks like it goes where you first thought it did. On the EGR valve.
