Back in WA from CA...bad luck!!!
I got in a wreck today in Oregon on the way back to WA from CA. I was getting on the freeway, when a van in the
"slow" lane hit a patch of ice(where was there no ice in Oregon today??) , spun out and plowed into me! I am proud that the front bumper held up and took a bite out of the door on the offending Ford van.

That sucks, how fast were you guys going when you hit? You got some pretty sweet bumpers on that thing. You didn't get any tickets did you? Since you are posting I take it you made it home already and don't have to drive threw Seattle's snow storm.

Thanks guys. Actually I left my parents' house in CA at 1:00 this morning, and I just got here at 9:??. It was a long day. And I did have to fight the snow and cold all the way from Redding CA( snow at 500 feet elevation?) to Portland OR, and again leaving Everett and soming into Mount Vernon. As I drove toward Whidbey Island, it was snowing all the way into Oak Harbor as well. Luckily here in Coupeville it was only raining lightly even though the whole town was covered with snow. I was going about 35 when I got hit. She claimed that she was driving at around 45. It was the weirdest thing that has ever happened, though it was the second time that I was hit in my truck. The first time was the 68 Chevy pickup that hit me at around 50mph when I was stopped at a red light. That was ugly, but I was able to drive home that day. The Chevy was not so lucky.

Glad to hear you're alright!
Y'know, if worse comes to worse, toyota sells new truck beds for around 1700.... that plus the fender is almost $2000.... Then you take the money, have a body shop fix it, and you still would have about $1k left!
I assume insurance says its his fault?

Glad you're OK man.
Sucks about your Toy though.
I hate driving in this type of weather because the majority of drivers don't know how to drive in snow/ice. The ones that scare me the most are the soccer moms in their big SUVS hauling a$$ down the road thinking their 4 wheel drive is unstoppable.

Couldn't agree more. Saw a ford exploder barreling down a street (45mph speed limit) at 50-55mph, went through an intersection got sideways right in front of me, thankfully they got it straightened out, and I was in 4wd at 30mph anyway, so I might've been able to avoid it, but damn some people are stupid.

And there are plenty of soccer dad idiots out there also with 4wd vehicles that drive too fast. braking is the same for 4 wd as 2 wd.

)Seriously though, 30 mph was just right for the conditions, as the roads had been plowed, but just had some heavy slush in areas (where the ford hit).

And about braking in 2wd vs. 4wd, it is technically the same, but the result afterward is different. If you start sliding in 4wd you are more likely to recover (through throttle control/steering) as opposed to 2wd. Especially since all that weight is over the front tires.
