Automatic Transmission Experts ?
OK,
I have a 100% rebuilt, awesome Aisin transmission in my 1999 4runner Limited, post milkshake. The thing is awesome and works 100%.
But one thing is different than stock. It delays upshift to D and OD until
the tranny is really warm (newer Toyotas like my Yaris all have this type of program...don't allow D until warmup).
In summer it is very fast. Now that fall is here the delay is annoying me, it
goes to D in 3 miles and 10 stop signs, but I want my old tranny behavior back.
Question. On these 1999 Limited and the transmission controller, is there
a wire to snip or short that bypasses the warmup-delay program ?
Again, on a 2010 Yaris you can bypass this with a mod. Anyone know if this is possible on my old Mr. Squeaky ?
Thanks

Yes, there is a temp sensor in the side of the transmission. Find the wire, cut it and place a 5k potentiometer between the cut wire going to the ecu and ground. Vary the pot to gain the required delay.
Warning: delayed lock up allows the fluid to thin by heating. This puts a lot less strain on the torque convertor and fluid pump. Damage may occur of you do this mod.
I will double check the wiring tomorrow and confirm the wiring change works.

No, the IPT mods will not effect it.
Turbo project is stalled at the moment, no funds right now to work on it. Hopefully will get back underway before next summer.
I did do a nice burnout yesterday though, gonna check the footage today and hope it turned out ok. If so it should be up on youtube late today or tomorrow.

sounds like my suspension project, AND my supercharger upgrade.
i have gotten on mine a couple times, can spin the 31's all the way through first gear (one tire fire open diff).
i try not to smoke expensive tires too much, LOL!
horsepower is a good thing. O-yea...
